“Can a nation be born in a day?” The prophet Isaiah once asked this question (Isaiah 66:8), and in May 1948 the world witnessed the answer: Yes. Against all odds, the modern state of Israel was declared, and God’s ancient promises were fulfilled before the eyes of the nations.

As Israel celebrates its 77th Independence Day, we are reminded not only of the miracle of her rebirth but also of the long and painful journey of the Jewish people leading up to it.

From Pharaoh’s oppression in Egypt, through the Babylonian exile, the Roman destruction of the Temple, and centuries of displacement, persecution, and antisemitism, the Jewish people endured wave after wave of attempts to erase them. Yet through it all, God preserved a remnant—keeping alive His covenant and His plan of redemption.

The modern return to the Land was foretold in Scripture and ignited by visionaries like Theodor Herzl and Eleazar Ben Yehuda, who dreamed of a Jewish homeland and even revived the Hebrew language from near extinction. The Balfour Declaration in 1917, the San Remo Conference of 1920, and waves of aliyah from across the world set the stage for what many thought impossible.

Then, in May 1948, David Ben-Gurion stood in Tel Aviv and declared the birth of the modern state of Israel. Immediately, surrounding nations declared war, yet Israel survived. From those fragile beginnings, God has continued to strengthen and bless His people—gathering exiles from Ethiopia, Russia, Yemen, and beyond, while allowing Israel to thrive in technology, medicine, agriculture, and defense.

The rebirth of Israel is not just political history—it is biblical prophecy fulfilled. Ezekiel 37 spoke of dry bones coming to life, and today we see that vision in motion. Jeremiah 31 calls the nations to witness Israel’s return. Amos 9:15 promises that God’s people will be planted in their land, never again to be uprooted.

For Christians, standing with Israel is not merely a political position—it is a biblical one. To be a Christian Zionist is to say: “I stand with the promises of God. I stand with His people. I believe His Word is true.” Around the world, thousands of believers join in prayer for Israel day and night, lifting their voices for her protection and peace.

Today, as Israel marks 77 years of independence, we remember that her survival and flourishing are not accidents of history, but living testimony to God’s faithfulness. Israel is indeed a “light to the nations” (Isaiah 49:6), and her story reminds us that God is still at work in our world, unfolding His redemptive plan.

This is not just Israel’s story—it is our story too. As believers, we are invited to step into the narrative, to pray, to stand, and to witness the fulfillment of prophecy in our generation.

Happy 77th Independence Day, Israel. May God’s promises continue to shine forth from Zion.
