Gratitude Gives Strength

When life feels unbearable, it’s rarely a sermon or a cliché that carries us through. It’s the smallest act of noticing — the breath still in our lungs, the kindness of a stranger, the warmth of sunlight through the window. Gratitude doesn’t erase suffering, but it roots us in something bigger than despair.

The psalmist declared, “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever”(Psalm 136:1). Notice the link: gratitude flows not from circumstances but from God’s enduring presence. When enemies shatter promises, when the road seems endless, giving thanks can feel almost defiant — like lifting your head when everything around you says to bow in defeat.

Gratitude is not denial. It’s a survival skill. Each “thank You” becomes a foothold on the climb out of darkness. And over time, those footholds form a path. Gratitude shifts our eyes from what’s been stolen to what cannot be taken — God’s nearness, His steady hand, His ability to redeem.

Reflection: What’s one small thing you can give thanks for today — not as a denial of pain, but as a lifeline that anchors you?

Prayer: Lord, teach me to find strength in gratitude, even when I feel weak. Let every “thank You” be a reminder that I am not alone, and that You are carrying me forward. Amen.
