Finding God’s Light When Darkness Walks In
When darkness dares to walk into the church, God’s light rises to expose and overcome it. This devotional reminds us to pray for discernment, courage, and purity in the house of God.
When Darkness Comes Close to Home
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” – John 1:5
DALLAS, TX —Churches are meant to be sanctuaries—places of safety, prayer, and worship. Yet history, and even recent times, remind us that evil sometimes dares to walk through church doors. When that happens, it shocks us, wounds communities, and tempts us to despair.
But God is not caught off guard. From the beginning, His Word has promised that His light will never be extinguished by darkness. Evil may intrude, but it cannot remain where the presence of God is welcomed. Even when the enemy tries to sow confusion, fear, or manipulation, the Spirit of the Lord is still stronger.
When we see corruption, hypocrisy, or even predatory behavior exposed within the church, it can feel overwhelming. Yet exposure itself is a sign that God is at work. He brings light where there has been secrecy. He calls His people back to purity, prayer, and truth.
When darkness enters our spaces, we have a choice: to shrink back in fear, or to press into the God who has already overcome the world. Every believer is called to be a lampstand, shining brightly in the place where God has planted them.
• Pray for Discernment: Ask the Lord to help you see with spiritual eyes and recognize when something is not of Him.
• Pray for Courage: Evil thrives in silence. Courageous prayer and truth-telling break its power.
• Pray for Purity in the Church: Intercede for your pastors, leaders, and congregation to be guarded from compromise and strengthened in holiness.
A Prayer for Today
Lord, when darkness tries to enter the place of Your worship, let Your light expose and overcome it. Give me courage to stand, wisdom to discern, and faith to believe that no evil is greater than Your power. Make me a vessel of Your light in my church, my family, and my community. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Evil may walk in, but God never leaves. His light shines brighter still.
