Praying for Justice: Trusting God’s Light in the Midst of Darkness

0

When headlines expose the ties between power and trafficking, believers can feel small and powerless. Yet prayer is not passive — it is the greatest force against injustice. This devotional reminds us that God’s light shines in the darkness, and His people are called to pray with faith and courage.

DALLAS, TX —When we read about powerful figures tied to trafficking invading our churches, it can feel overwhelming and hopeless. How can one person’s prayer matter against systems of corruption and abuse? Yet Scripture reminds us: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5).

God’s people have always been called to stand against injustice. The prophets of Israel spoke boldly against leaders who oppressed the weak, and Jesus Himself began His ministry by proclaiming freedom for the oppressed (Luke 4:18). In these dark times, when headlines expose hidden evils, we are reminded that prayer is not passive. Prayer shakes kingdoms, breaks chains, and calls forth God’s justice.

Prayer aligns us with God’s justice. When we pray for survivors, we partner with heaven in their restoration.

Prayer confronts powers. Every prayer against trafficking resists the kingdom of darkness.

Prayer sustains action. God often answers by raising up His people to act — to give, to protect, to speak.

“Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.” (Isaiah 1:17)

Takeaway

You may not stand in a courtroom, but you stand before God’s throne every time you pray. And the Judge of all the earth will do right (Genesis 18:25).
